Poppy Seeds is published by the team behind Dutch-Smart, a Dutch smartshop. We say that first, because you should know who is behind a site before you rely on it.
This site sells nothing and contains no product links or offers. That is a deliberate choice: it is meant as reference information only. We publish it because people search every day for answers about poppy seeds, drug tests and poppy seed tea, and much of what they find is out of date, written to sell something, or silent about the deaths.
How the information is put together
- Facts about the plant, the alkaloids and drug testing come from scientific papers, food safety authorities (EFSA, Germany's BfR, the Bavarian LGL, the US FDA) and official texts. Sources are linked where we use them.
- Legal information comes from the published text of each law, checked on 11 October 2026. Where we could not verify a claim from an official source, we left it out and say so.
- We give no instructions for preparing, extracting or dosing anything from the poppy, not even indirectly, and we make no health claims of any kind.
- We publish no testimonials, reviews or personal stories other than cases already reported by named news organisations or in scientific journals.
Every page shows when it was last updated. If you find something that is out of date or wrong, Dutch-Smart's customer service can pass it on to us.
